Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco, a diocesan priest, Founder of Sisters of St. John the Baptist, born on 23rd March, 1839 in Angri, Italy was from a profound religious family. Ordained as priest in 1863, he dedicated himself for education and taking care of small abandoned children. In particular he was having a heart to educate and evangelize the youth specially the poor and abandoned. With this hope in 1878 he founded the Congregation of Sisters of St. John the Baptist. On February 6th 1910, in Angri Don Alfonso Maria Fusco bid farewell to this world and his soul took refuge in God saying, ‘I am a simple instrument in the hands of God … This work is not mine…. Everything is the works of God!”
On 7th October 2001, Pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square Rome proclaimed him ‘Blessed.’ The following miracle was the cause for Beatification.
